CORFU. 897 of the offences were in Corfu.
Traffic Police carried out spot checks between 3 and 8 August in Corfu, Zakynthos, Cephalonia and Lefkada.
3,720 vehicles were checked and 1,819 offences were confirmed (897 in Corfu, 414 in Zakynthos, 256 in Cephalonia and 252 in Lefkada), with the appropriate fines being issued.
The violations included:
- 243 for not wearing a helmet
- 194 for speeding
- 50 for driving under the influence
- 36 for driving without a licence
- 30 for not having insurance
- 28 for not using seat belts
- 22 for MOT violations
- 20 for noise levels above that permitted
- 17 for using mobile phone while driving
- 7 for driving on the wrong side of the road
- 1,172 other offences
