CORFU. 3,022 police checks and 973 driving offences in the Ionian Islands in total.
(Ionian Islands Regional Police Department) Traffic Police carried out spot checks between 19 and 25 October in Corfu, Zakynthos, Cephalonia and Lefkada.
3,022 vehicles were checked and 973 offences were confirmed (571 in Corfu, 179 in Zakynthos, 116 in Cephalonia and 107 in Lefkada), with the appropriate fines being issued.
The violations included:
- 162 for speeding
- 148 for not wearing a helmet
- 26 for driving without a licence
- 26 for MOT violations
- 21 for not having insurance
- 15 for not using seat belts
- 9 for driving under the influence
- 8 for driving on the wrong side of the road
- 6 for illegal overtaking
- 6 for using mobile phone while driving
- 4 for dangerous driving
- 1 for noise levels above that permitted
- 541 other offences
