500 driving offences in Ionian Islands in one week

CORFU. 493 driving offences were confirmed in 1,690 police checks over the last week.
(Ionian Islands Regional Police Department) Traffic Police carried out an increased number of checks between 12/1 and 18/1 in Corfu, Zakynthos, Cephalonia and Lefkada with 185 units.
1,690 vehicles were checked
493 offences were confirmed (248 in Corfu, 100 in Zakynthos, 84 in Cephalonia and 61 in Lefkada).
These included the following:
- 191 for illegal parking
- 67 for speeding
- 33 for not using helmets
- 23 for MOT violations
- 19 for driving without a licence
- 15 for not using seat belts
- 11 for driving under the influence
- 10 for driving without insurance
- 7 for driving on the wrong side of the road
- 6 for using a mobile phone whilst driving
- 6 for noise above the permitted level
