Metropolitan Municipality renamed ΄Corfiots & Diapontians΄

"A Municipality cannot be defined geographically - a Municipality is made up of its citizens, the people, the community, its cultural wealth, what has been created by previous generations and what we hope will be created by future generations." Ms. Ydraiou said that according to law, the renaming of a Municipality needs a Presidential Decree following a request from the Municipality. She proposed that it be renamed "Corfiots & Diapontians" - which she considered to be correct "conceptually, politically and in reality".



The long discussion which followed the Mayor's proposal concluded with 27 votes in favour (parties led by Ydraiou, Kaloudis, Neratzis, Sarlis, Dri and Poulis), 15 abstentions (Laiki Sispirosi and Mr. Trepeklis' party) and 2 against (Markatis and Karidis).
