ATHENS. Minister Panos Skourletis gave a comprehensive answer to a question from MP Emmanuel Konsolas (New Democracy). Below is the Minister’s response to the question from Mr. Konsolas on the subject of ‘Immediate measures and changes to the official legislation in order to tackle the explosive refuse situation in Corfu - which is a danger to public health and is damaging the island’s image as a tourist resort’.

CORFU. The decision to close down the three cells (A, B & C) at Temploni landfill came from the Ionian Islands Regional Governor on the recommendation of the responsible department. Administrative penalties and fine were also imposed on SYDISA.
New waste management project with a budget of 925,000 Euros
CORFU. The new project is the ΄Development of a network for the separate collection of bio-waste in Corfu Municipality΄.
Regional Governor refuses to meet with visiting American officers because of Gaza
CORFU. The Ionian Islands Regional Governor, Theodoros Galiatsatos, informed the US Embassy in Greece that he would not meet with the officers from the US Naval vessel which is due to visit Corfu in the next few days as a symbolic gesture.

Greek ombudsman coming to Corfu
CORFU. A team from the ombudsman΄s office will be visiting the Ionian Islands Regional Administration on Wednesday 25th April. Specialists and assistant ombudsmen from the independent authority will be conducting inspections and investigation following reports from members of the public as well as working meetings with local authorities and community representatives.
