Regional Governor refuses to meet with visiting American officers because of Gaza

CORFU. The Ionian Islands Regional Governor, Theodoros Galiatsatos, informed the US Embassy in Greece that he would not meet with the officers from the US Naval vessel which is due to visit Corfu in the next few days as a symbolic gesture.
The Regional Governor told the US Embassy that he did not wish to meet with the officers in response to the involvement of the USA in the recent bloody events in the Gaza Strip which resulted in the death and injuries of Palestinians.
Mr Galiatsatos said, "We believe that this response expresses the feelings of everyone in the Ionian Islands without exception - one can only feel revulsion when seeing the images of the slaughter in the Gaza Strip. In our opinion, and in the opinion of Amnesty International, these actions were a gross breach of basic human rights."
