Hydrocarbons and tourism in the South Ionian

The time is coming for exploratory drilling and the exploitation of hydrocarbons in Western Greece and the Ionian Sea. Energy is entering our lives and our region is playing a leading role nationally in these developments.
 
Research in the block between Cephalonia, Zakynthos, the Echinades Islands and the Kilini coast has been completed and the green light has been given by the Regional Administration. The international contracts have been signed, and the state is bound by the signatures of both the former and the current government. 2018 is the year of exploratory drilling, which will reveal the size of the deposits and whether it will be in the companies’ interest to proceed.


 
The Achaia newspaper Peloponnese in collaboration with the regional TV channel ‘IONIAN’, took the initiative of setting up a dialogue about ‘Energy and Tourism in the South Ionian’. The purpose of the meeting ‘Development prospects in the South Ionian’, which took place in Zakynthos on Thursday 22^nd February, was for the local area to learn about the developments, concerns and future plans. This issue directly affects the future prospects of our region, the national economy, as well as all of our lives.
 
There were two parts to the meeting - Energy and Tourism. It wasn’t only these two regional media that were involved, but also local and regional organizations, specialists, environmental organizations, tourism professionals and local businesses.
