CORFU. On Saturday 10th March the Regional Governor for the Ionian Islands, Theodoros Galiatsatos, visited the Garitsa seafront road to see how the restoration work was progressing.
The Governor spoke with Athanasios Froussos, representing the technical company undertaking the work ‘Grautek A.E. – Varnalis, Ioannis’, and the site manager Spyridon Zervopoulos. He declared himself to be completely satisfied with the way the work was progressing.
Mr. Galiatsatos stated that “Garitsa seafront and the NAOK wall was a stagnant project that had recently been of great concern to residents. The need to restore the seawall and the seafront pavement had become a huge problem because of the way the matter had been dealt with in the past. When we took over the Regional Administration we found that the work was completely stagnant and making no progress whatsoever. What we did was ensure that all the services involved worked together in a coordinated way – the Archaeological Service, the Contract Company, Technical Services and the Regional Administration. Thus, what once seemed impossible became possible. We set aside those who didn’t want to work and collaborated with a technical company that knows how to carry out the work.
Fortunately, the work is progressing at a fantastic rate in accordance with the contract and everything is being done to make the Garitsa seafront a town symbol once again.”
