8 arrests and 190 driving offences in Ionian Islands

CORFU. Police spot checks were carried out in the Ionian Islands with 190 driving offences and 8 arrests.
Between 10:00 and 14:00 on 11 January police in Corfu, Zakynthos, Cephalonia and Lefkada carried out checks with the following results:
540 vehicles and 605 individuals were checked, leading to eight arrests (seven in Zakynthos and one in Lefkada).
There were two arrests for drug offences and six for driving without a licence.
There were 190 driving offences, including the following:
- 25 speeding
- 34 not wearing crash helmet
- 12 not wearing seat belts
- 4 running red lights
- 4 using mobile phone whilst driving
- 3 driving on wrong side of road
- 15 without driving licences
- 2 with uninsured vehicles
- 6 without MOT
28 vehicles were immobilised for driving without a licence, not wearing crash helmets and being without MOT.
There were also 3 offences of smoking in no smoking areas.
