ICU patient, 76, dies - Latest update from Corfu Hospital
CORFU. Slight decrease in the number of Covid patients at Corfu Hospital.
Over the last month the hospital has been under tremendous pressure and the average daily number of Covid patients has been 40-45. There has, however, been a slight improvement and today (Monday 14:30) there are 28 patients in the Special Infectious Diseases Unit and Pulmonary Clinic and 4 in the ICU, according to hospital sources.
Over the Christmas weekend, a 76-year-old man died who, according to the same sources, had underlying health conditions and was unvaccinated.
Whether this shows a general de-escalation of the situation or is just a temporary drop remains to be seen as the data has not yet been published to indicate whether or not the Omicron variant has reached Corfu. The samples from Corfu Hospital are sent to the Pasteur Institute for analysis and EODY then publishes the results.
