Corfu Hospital holds earthquake and fire drill
CORFU. Large-scale exercise coordinated by EKAB/KEPY, with support from affiliated services.
On Tuesday morning, March 24, the healthcare and emergency response forces of Corfu were placed on full alert during a scheduled exercise at the General Hospital. Starting at 10:00 a.m., the staged scenario tested the responsiveness of the staff and the coordination of the emergency services in dealing with complex earthquake and fire incidents.

Under the close supervision of EKAB/KEPY, the exercise included a series of critical phases that required precision and speed:
Rescue and Firefighting: A fire broke out in the Paediatric–Neonatal Department, leading to a partial evacuation and the successful rescue of a nurse.
Emergency Department Evacuation: Immediate removal of patients and staff from the Emergency Department.

Outdoor triage: Establishment of a triage unit in the hospital courtyard for the reception and assessment of cases.
Patient transport: Coordinated transfer of patients from the affected departments to the outdoor unit.

Psychological support: Provision for the management and support of the relatives of those affected.
The entire staff of the General Hospital, the Fire Service and the Hellenic Police, EKAB, and the Hellenic Red Cross all participated in the operation in an exemplary manner.
