Corfu Hospital Psychiatric Clinic patient, 25, found dead

CORFU. A tragic end for a 25-year-old patient of the Psychiatric Clinic of Corfu General Hospital, who had been missing for several hours after leaving the inpatient unit. The authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death, while hospital sources are once again raising the issue of understaffing at the clinic.
A tragic outcome followed the disappearance of a 25-year-old patient from the Psychiatric Clinic of Corfu General Hospital, who was found dead in an outdoor area of the hospital in the early hours of Thursday morning.
According to information from hospital sources, the 25-year-old man was being treated in the Psychiatric Clinic and was expected to be discharged soon. On Wednesday night, shortly before midnight, he temporarily left the inpatient unit with the intention of returning.
According to the same sources, before leaving the area he met with people close to him outside the hospital premises. When it was later discovered that he had not returned to the clinic, staff began searching the hospital grounds and the surrounding area.
Sadly, in the early hours of the morning, the 25-year-old was found hanged at an outdoor location within the hospital grounds.
The police have been informed of the incident and are carrying out the required preliminary investigation, while a forensic examination into the circumstances of the death is also expected.
Following the tragic incident, hospital sources have once again raised the issue of understaffing in healthcare services, arguing that staff shortages significantly hinder the monitoring, treatment and care of patients, particularly in departments with increased demands such as Psychiatry.
