According to the National Meteorological Service, the weather is expected to deteriorate from Saturday afternoon with heavy rains and thunderstorms that will also occur in Epirus. Based on this forecast, the Ionian Islands Regional Civil Protection Service informed Municipalities, Services and other bodies drawing their attention, while it also recommends citizens to be careful when traveling.
The forecast
The weather will deteriorate gradually from Saturday afternoon (January 6th) to Sunday evening (January 7th) with heavy rain and thunderstorms and south winds.
Saturday 6 January
- Heavy rain and thunderstorms from late afternoon onwards in the Ionian Islands, Epirus, western Central Greece and western Peloponnese.
- Force 7 and 8 winds from the afternoon in the Ionian Islands and the evening in the Aegean, while during the night they will increase up to Force 9.
Sunday 7 January
- Heavy rain and thunderstorms will continue until the afternoon in western Greece (Ionian Islands, Epirus, western Central Greece, western and southern Peloponnese) and will weaken in the evening. From early morning, heavy rain and thunderstorms will affect eastern Macedonia, Thrace and possibly the eastern Aegean islands, easing from the afternoon.
- Force 7 and 8 winds occasionally and Force 9 winds in the morning.
