CORFU. Even the brand new Vraganiotika School Centre had problems.
South Corfu Municipality decided that the local primary and nursery schools should remain closed today due to the problems caused by yesterday's heavy rainfall. The decision was reached after consultation with the Corfu Primary Education Department.
According to South Corfu Municipal Education Committee Mr. Iseris, there were problems at Melikia Primary School where the principal's office, the 6th Year classroom and the computer room were flooded and water was leaking from the ceilings in three other classrooms. The water was removed by the Civil Protection Service and the Fire Department.
Water was pouring off the roof of Perivoli Nursery, which shares a building with the childcare centre, and was removed by staff.
Three classrooms were flooded at Argyrades Primary School and there were also problems at the brand new Vraganiotika School Centre which opened this year after years of waiting. The computer room, the physics and chemistry room and the boys' toilets were flooded by water pouring off the roof.
Neohori Nursery, which also houses the primary school, also had problems with flooding in the school yard.
Mr. Iseris said that the schools will open tomorrow.
