CORFU. There were 1,630 spot checks in the Ionian Islands between 2 and 5 June.
Police carried out intensive spot checks in the Ionian Islands over the holiday weekend, 2-5 June.
In Corfu, Cephalonia, Zakynthos and Lefkada 47 units carried out spot checks on 1,630 vehicles and found 493 driving offences - 320 in Corfu, 74 in Zakynthos, 58 in Lefkada and 41 in Cephalonia.
The offences were as follows:
- 40 speeding
- 16 driving under the influence
- 10 driving on the wrong side of the road
- 1 illegal overtaking
- 8 using mobile phones
- 17 not using seat belts
- 76 not using crash helmets
- 16 without MOT
- 31 without driving licences
- 278 other offences
