CORFU. The Society΄s President Yiannis Garnelis said that the spirit of cohesion and mutual support must be cultivated and agreed that culture connects peoples.
The Sinies Educational and Cultural Society travelled to Serbia from 26 to 29 January following an invitation from the Ponesi Opanci Organisation to attend events held in Belgrade, Novi Sad and Surduk.
On Thursday 26 January the Society's President Yiannis Garnelis along with the Serbian Organisation's President Mr. Lukits visited the Presidential Palace where they were welcomed by a representative of the President of the Republic of Serbia Mr. Aleksandar Vučić and exchanged gifts.
On the same day, the Vice President of the Serbian Parliament and President of the Hellenic-Serbian Friendship Asscociation Veroljub Arsic welcomed the people from Corfu in the Serbian Parliament and spoke about the history of Serbian politics.
Mr. Arsic stated the following: "Our people will always be grateful for the way the Serbian army was welcomed in Corfu. By exchanging cultures and traditions we promote cooperation between the Serbian and Greek people, we learn and understand more and in this way we can help each other".

On Friday 27 January people from the Society visited the church of St. Sava and some of them visited the Serbian Patriarchate where they gave a small gift from our Archbishop Nektarios to the Patriarch. Then the dance group participated in filming that took place at the state TV channel PTC in a morning show related to culture and tourism. In the afternoon the Society went to Novi Sad where dance groups that had participated in previous Sinies Dance Festivals in Corfu met and held a joint event.
On Saturday 28 January a small performance was given by the Society's dance group and a Serbian dance group at the Belgrade City Hall in the presence of the Deputy Mayor Vesna Vidovic who welcomed our group and mentioned the friendship with Corfu. Afterwards there was an evening performance in Surduk with the local dance association, which was attended by a large number of people.
