CORFU. Those using the refuse bins can help reduce the volume of rubbish.
Gouvia Cultural Society has issued guidelines for using the press containers in Gouvia so that mixed waste is not left exposed. In this way those using the refuse bins can help reduce the volume of rubbish during the tourist season when there is a large increase in the amount of waste.
Announcement from Gouvia Cultural Society
Two press containers have been placed in Brouzou next to the former biological treatment facility. The green refuse bins have been removed from the spot and we should all use the press containers for our mixed waste. Please note this does not affect the use of the Green Spot and the blue bins will still be used for recyclable materials only.
Using the press container:
1. Deposit the tied up bags of refuse
2. Turn the switch to 1
3. Press Start (green button)
4. When the rubbish has been taken turn the switch back to 0
The purpose of the above procedure is for the rubbish not to remain on the surface - otherwise the press containers will be no more than expensive refuse bins.
Watch a video of the procedure.
The announcement ends by saying, "We hope that the recent disgusting sight of toilet rubbish lying around the containers was just an accident."
