Reinforcements for Cleaning Service
CORFU. The accumulation of rubbish in suburban communities is attributed to the failure of transitional planning.
The proverb says 'whoever doesn't want to knead, sieves for ten years,' and regarding the refuse collection here, the point of interest is that one person was sieving while another was kneading. In any case, this is the explanation for the accumulation of Augean filth in Paleokastritsa, Doukades, and generally in the suburban communities. According to municipal sources, the inability to collect the rubbish was due to a lack of personnel, which is now being addressed. Since last weekend, they have already cleaned the aforementioned areas.
The new contract with the waste collection contractor covered a smaller area and was specifically limited to the town, leaving the suburban communities out. The new plan foresaw the replacement of the contractor by the municipal cleaning service, with the addition of necessary personnel. The previous contractors were leaving, the new ones were coming, and thus the request to ASEP for the deployment of about 40 temporary workers (for eight months) was delayed.
The Municipality secured ten and then another sixteen workers, so until the end of the season and the fiscal year, the matter should be considered covered in terms of labour to prevent the recurrence of such situations, reminiscent of the recent past, and which were depicted on social media.
It is anticipated that in the plan for the next period, which is to be submitted by the end of August, and mainly given that the previous and the next contractors are the same ones, things will go smoothly. Here's hoping!
