CORFU. This initiative was accepted by the Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands, which, through an official document, granted the necessary permit for the collection of rubbish using private means, as well as for its disposal at the Temploni Waste Transfer Station.

With a press release and an official document from the Municipality, Paleokastritsa Business Association made public the initiative it has undertaken regarding the adverse situation that has arisen in the area due to the lack of rubbish collection, at the peak of the tourist season.

The Association took action on its own initiative. In collaboration with the President of the local community and with the support of the Paleokastritsa Rental Accommodation Association, its members proceeded to sign a contract with a private contractor for the management and collection of their businesses’ waste, taking on the associated costs.

This initiative was accepted by the Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands, which, through an official document, granted the necessary permit for the collection of rubbish using private means, as well as for its disposal at the Temploni Waste Transfer Station. The Municipality clarified that there will be no additional charges to the businesses, as the relevant services are already included in the municipal fees.

The Association expressed hope that the issues affecting the operation of the Cleaning Service will be resolved promptly, so that normalcy can be restored and the Municipality can fully resume its responsibilities.
