Waste management plant - in the final stretch
CORFU. Two joint ventures remain in the competition after the adjudication of the objections.
The offers from the joint ventures participating in the competition for the construction of the waste management plant in long-suffering Temploni will finally be opened today (18/12). After the adjudication of preliminary objections, two joint ventures remain in the running: TERNA - Mediterranean and HELECTOR-Watt. On Friday, 20/12, the board of directors of FODSA (Regional Waste Management Body) will hold a meeting to draft the procedural report, initiating a ten-day period during which it may be contested. Following the expiration of this period, a provisional contractor is expected to be announced by mid-January 2025 at the latest. The pre-contractual review and signing of the contract will then take place, paving the way for the installation of the contractor to begin construction.
It seems almost unbelievable, considering the fact that the preparation of tender documents and the handling of preliminary objections have been repeated at least three times, creating the impression that this matter would continue endlessly, starting over and over from square one, where it would soon return! It should be noted that the first tender documents were prepared during the mayoralty of Mr. Nikolouzos, at a time when the project was under the responsibility of the Local Authority Management Association (SYDISA).
Now, perhaps for the first time, it seems that the case might actually reach completion. The construction of a similar facility in Eleftherochori (Dodoni) Ioannina took about two years, while the related red tape spanned nearly a decade. Here, of course, the process has proven to be much more time-consuming and far more expensive due to delays, transportation costs and other factors. This time, in light of Corfu’s other major issues, it seems we are finally approaching the goal...
