The Mayor's letter
Mr. Aspiotis,
Dear Aleko,
I respect the perturbation that led you to resign as Deputy Mayor just as I respect your political responsibility in declaring that you have no intention of becoming an independent councillor as you were elected as a member of NERIKI. These are both clear in your letter of 26 June.
I'm sure you understand, however, that in the battle the local authority is fighting on a daily basis to tackle big, long-term problems we need the support of all the members of our party. We all have the obligation to complete our term, making every effort to achieve the best possible result. Your contribution to this daily effort is critical - as can be seen from your term as Deputy Mayor and your presence at Council meetings. You are a party member who respects the votes he received and is conscientious and efficient.
For these reasons, I believe that you won't insist on resigning.
