CORFU. Kostas Nikolouzos gave an update on what is being done....and not being done in Lefkimmi and Temploni.
At Monday evening's council meeting Kostas Nikolouzos said that repair works at the landfill in the south are expected to be completed by 12 November according to the contractor. He added, however, that there would not be asphalting "as the only candidate for the contract gave up due to threats received."
He also gave an update on the situation in Temploni. "The contractor is repairing the biological facility and will put it into operation. The biogas facility just requires some extra safety systems as required by DEDDIE." He added that there was uncertainty regarding "the contractor for the 2nd production line and the committee has appointed a temporary contractor. The removal of the 4th cell has to be done via the interim management and the 2nd production line. There has been a delay in the land in Temploni donated by the charitable organization in May becoming available."
Regarding the recruitment of personnel on a 2-month contract - following the approval of the Ministry of the Interior, 10 people have been recruited out of the 60 requested by Corfu Municipality.
"I did all I could," said Spyros Aspiotis
There was also talk about the developments in the Cleansing Services as it had been officially announced earlier in the meeting that Spyros Kaloudis would be taking over from Spyros Aspiotis. "I did all I could," stressed the latter.
He didn't deny that there had been mistakes but said that they hadn't been deliberate. "There were mistakes and failures, but they weren't deliberate. My hands are clean. I did whatever I could to the best of my ability."
The Mayor thanked Mr. Aspiotis, saying that he had a tremendous responsibility, which few have taken on, under extremely difficult conditions - both practically and psychologically.
