Corfu Hoteliers to Prime Minister Tsipras: We are at zero point

CORFU. Corfu Hoteliers Association sent a letter to the Prime Minister expressing its fear that the final nail will soon be driven into the coffin of the country’s top tourist destination.

Honourable Mr. Prime Minister,
Corfu hotel businesses and their employees are working hard every day to support the national economy.
Recently, we expressed our deep concern at the situation with waste management and the dead end at which the Municipality of Corfu now finds itself.
This fear, which undermines our public health, local economy and development, must come to an end following the incident yesterday at Lefkimmi Landfill Facility and the damage that was done to the property. The situation is out of control.
If Corfu has to face once again the situation we had in 2015 and 2016, with tons of rubbish on the roads, then we will have driven the final nail into the coffin of the country’s top tourist destination.
The acts of lawlessness on 6th May, if not dealt with immediately by the state, threaten to permanently paralyse the stable and lawful functioning of the local community.
We have reached zero point.
It is the responsibility of the national government, in cooperation with the local government, to find an immediate solution.
We personally request you to do whatever is possible to solve this huge problem in Corfu.
Corfu and Greek tourism is being dragged through the mud and it is just a matter of time for serious health problems to develop.
As citizens and businessmen, we request an immediate solution.
