CORFU. This year, the participation of the Ionian University Department of Tourism at the Municipality’s booth was particularly significant.

(Central Corfu Municipality) The Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands participated successfully in the international tourism exhibition ITB Berlin—one of the most important events in the global tourism industry—with positive messages regarding the course of tourism and important professional contacts

For the second consecutive year, the Municipality participated with its own 20-square-metre stand and four workstations, offering businesses from the island—from hotels and travel agencies to organisers of outdoor activities and marine tourism—the opportunity to hold professional meetings and develop partnerships with representatives of the international tourism market.

Particularly significant this year was the participation of the Ionian University Department of Tourism at the Municipality’s stand, highlighting the connection between education, scientific research, and tourism development. The presence of the University in such an important international environment constituted another step toward outward engagement for Corfu, strengthening cooperation between local government, businesses, and the academic community.

Within the framework of the exhibition, the new Corfu tourist guide was also presented, placing particular emphasis on culture, nature, and the authentic experiences of the Corfiot countryside. At the same time, the stand hosted promotional materials from other organisations, such as the Corfu Automobile Club and the Municipality of Paxos, underlining that the promotion of the destination is a collective effort.

Visitors to the stand also had the opportunity to discover and taste local products from Corfu, thanks to the contribution of local producers, in an initiative that highlighted the island’s gastronomy and hospitality.

Interest from representatives of the international market in Corfu remained strong throughout the exhibition, confirming the destination’s momentum and the prospects for the upcoming tourist season. Despite international developments, the messages from Corfiot businesses that participated in the exhibition are particularly positive. As tourism analysts point out, the current trend favours closer, familiar, and safe destinations—criteria that Corfu clearly meets.

In a statement, the Deputy Mayor for Sustainable Tourism Development and Public Relations, Spyros Halikopoulos, said:

“Our presence at ITB Berlin is part of a broader strategy of outward engagement and active participation of the destination in major international tourism events. Our participation is not only about promoting Corfu, but also about monitoring international developments, new trends, and the challenges shaping the future of tourism.

Through cooperation, professionalism, and a shared vision, we continue to work so that Corfu strengthens its position as a destination that combines culture, nature, and high-quality hospitality. From Berlin, we sent the message that Corfu is attractive and safe, evolving and looking toward the future of tourism with attention but also optimism.”
