CORFU. The Deputy Mayor for Finance Giorgos Pantelios will recommend at tomorrow’s Central Corfu Municipal Council the approval of the start of the procedures for the lease of the Aktaion Cafe.
If the go-ahead is given, the Finance Committee, after examining the report of the sworn valuer, will define the terms for the auction of the property's lease concerning the starting price, the amount of the guarantee and the lease time.
It is worth noting that according to the policy now applied by the Municipality, the contractual obligations of the lessees of municipal properties now include the payment of a deposit, so that the Municipality does not lose money from unpaid rents – a policy that was also followed in the case of the Zisimos Cafe where a €39,000 deposit was paid by the new tenant, the ‘Nikos Michos & Co.’ company.
The Aktaion Cafe closed on 31 October, as the contract for the property ended and the premises had been emptied, since according to the law, the property must be empty during the auction.
There is a lot of interest shown from potential bidders who wish to get their hands on the cafe. It remains, however, to be seen if this will also be the case during the submission of bids. It should be noted that the Aktaion has been operating, not only as a cafe and a restaurant, but also as a welcoming venue for artistic events, presentations and promotions, for 50 years.
