Independence Day programme 25 March

Friday 24th

- Talks at primary and secondary schools on the significance of the anniversary. Schools decorated with flags.
- 12:00 Laying of wreaths at the Hero statue in Corfu Town by students, pupils, scouts and guides with the philharmonic band.


- Flags raised from 08:00 on 23rd until sunset on 25th March.
- Public and municipal buildings lit up in evening on 24 and 25 March.
- Corfu Central Port Authority arranges for commercial ships to be decorated with flags and lit up.

Saturday 25th

08:00 Raising of the flag the New Fortress cross with an armed forces unit lined up at the entrance.

10:55 Arrival of official guests at the Metropolitan Spileotissa Church

11:00 Official service at Metropolitan Spileotissa Church led by Nektarios, Archbishop of Corfu, Paxos and Diapontia Islands.

Following the service there will be an official address by the Principal of Corfu 4th Junior High School Elena Vousolinou-Anifanti.

 11:30 Memorial service and laying of wreaths at the Hero statue by a government representative, the Regional Governor, Corfu MPs, the Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands Mayor and other officials.

One minute silence in remembrance of the fallen heroes.

12:15 Memorial service and laying of wreaths at the statue of Ioannis Capodistrias by a government representative, the Regional Governor and the Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands Mayor.

12:30 Memorial service and laying of wreaths at the statue of the National Poet Dionysis Solomos by a government representative, the Regional Governor and the Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands Mayor.

12:45 Parade in Corfu Town with disabled war veterans, students, pupils, guides and scouts, armed forces, police, coastguard, fire service and border guards accompanied by the following bands: Corfu Philharmonic, Mantzaros, Spyros Samaras and Capodistrias.
 
18:40 Lowering of the flag at the New Fortress.
