CORFU. A section of the clinic has already been cleared, cleaned and prepared for the new equipment.
The maternity clinic at Corfu Hospital is ready for new equipment to be installed thanks to the generosity of business magnate Henry Holterman, who has firmly established himself on the island.
A section of the clinic has been inoperational due to lack of equipment - a situation which will now be remedied thanks to the donation. It is hoped that the number of transfers of newborn infants with problems to other hospitals will now be reduced.
According to administrative sources, the new obstetrics section will now be separate from the other operating theatres.
Ministry of Health approval
The Dutch magnate has declared in writing his desire to donate €200,000, which was initially accepted by the hospital board a few months ago. Due to the size of the donation the board also got approval from the ministry of Health.
The section of the clinic on the 1st floor, which up to now has been inoperational, was used as office space for doctors during the pandemic.
Matters are now ready to proceed - the area has already been cleared, cleaned and prepared for the new equipment and the donation has once again been approved by the board. The same sources say that the appointment of a new obstetrician is also expected shortly.
Who is Henry Holterman?
Dutch businessman Henry Holterman is CEO of Dutch investment fund Reggeborgh Invest, which is worth over €10bn, and has had business dealings in Greece for many years. It is said that Corfu holds a special place in his heart and he has demonstrated this in a variety of ways.
He is the new owner of the Kourkoumeli Estate in Afra. He is involved in philanthropic works (such as donations to 'Melissa' and Afra Cultural Society) and in June 2022 he donated an ultramodern boat to the Coastguard.
It is also strongly rumoured that he is interested in ownership of Corfu Palace Hotel in Garitsa.
Honorary citizenship
According to the Athens press, to date he has invested over €600m in Greece - he is a major shareholder in companies in the construction, financial and energy sectors and more recently in tourist real estate.
Last Dember the Holterman family were given honorary citizenship by Presidential Decree.
