(Ionian University) The Ionian University participated in the Anniversary Conference of the UniAdrion Network entitled “Hybrid Conference: 25 Years of Sustainable Development and Regional Cooperation,” which was held on May 4 and 5, under the Greek Presidency of the Network by the University of Ioannina, marking the 25th anniversary since the Network’s founding.
UniAdrion (Association of Universities of the Adriatic-Ionian) is the result of collaboration between Greek and international universities and research centres, aiming to strengthen and promote culture, science, education and research in the Adriatic and Ionian region.
The Ionian University was invited to the event to present topics related to Sustainable Tourism and Environmental Quality. It was represented by Professor Ekaterini Kampasi, Dean of the School of Environment, whose presentation focused on the Ionian University as a multi-island institution and on the Departments operating in Corfu, Cephalonia and Zakynthos, as well as on ways to interconnect all the Ionian Islands.
The Ionian University has departments, research laboratories and institutes in Corfu, Cephalonia, Zakynthos and Lefkada. Among many other initiatives, it carries out research programmes that concern all the Ionian Islands, such as the installation of meteorological stations and the systematic documentation of centuries-old olive groves.
The Ionian University is a member of UniAdrion, as the development of partnerships with European scientific institutions—particularly with a focus on the Adriatic/Mediterranean region—is a strategic priority of the University in the context of its internationalisation efforts. This aims to highlight not only scientific knowledge but also the tradition, culture, and multicultural character of the islands of the Ionian Islands Region.
