Ionian University and UNICEF establish Centre for Children΄s Rights

The first Centre for Children's Rights at the Ionian University will be established as part of the cooperation launched between the University and UNICEF Greece, with the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation by Dean Andreas Floros and UNICEF’s Diplomatic Representative in Greece, Ghassan Khalil.

The agreement, signed on 29 June, marks the inclusion of the Ionian University in the expanding network of 18 Greek higher education institutions collaborating with UNICEF to promote and protect children's rights.

The aim of the partnership is to develop joint initiatives in the fields of research, education, and interdisciplinary dialogue, with a focus on safeguarding children's rights. The new Centre is expected to become a point of reference for the academic community as well as for local society, through awareness-raising and public information activities.

UNICEF’s Diplomatic Representative in Greece, Ghassan Khalil, stated that the expansion of the university partnership network strengthens the collective effort to integrate children’s rights into education, research, and public dialogue, leaving a lasting legacy for future generations.

On behalf of the Ionian University, Dean Andreas Floros described the signing of the Memorandum as the starting point of a collaboration that places children’s rights at the heart of the academic and social mission of the public university. He noted that, in the coming period, joint information, awareness-raising, and educational activities open to the public will be implemented, while expressing his gratitude to UNICEF Greece and to all those who contributed to bringing the partnership to fruition.
