Five Ionian University academics named among the world’s leading scientists

CORFU. All five are from the School of Environment, with research focused on environmental science and food science. The ranking is based on bibliometric indicators and the impact of their scientific publications.
Five members of the academic and research staff of the Ionian University have been included in the 2026 Stanford List of the World's Top 2% Scientists, according to an announcement by the School of Environment. The five are members of the School of Environment.
They are Professor Ekaterini Kampasi of the Department of Environment, who is a member of the University’s Governing Council, and four members of the Department of Food Science and Technology: the department’s chair, Professor Nikolaos Kopsahelis; Associate Professor Panayiotis Kandylis; and Assistant Professors Maria Alexandri and Ekaterini Papadaki.
The ranking is based on bibliometric indicators, such as scientific citations and the impact of publications. It does not constitute an overall assessment of the academic quality or teaching performance of university staff.
The Dean of the School of Environment, Konstantinos Poirazidis, congratulated the five scientists and their collaborators, highlighting the contribution of this distinction to raising the international profile of the Ionian University.
