"The five families of Chinese porcelain"

CORFU. Educational programme and art workshop by the Museum of Asian Art, on Monday, May 19.
(Museum of Asian Art) Corfu Museum of Asian Art, as part of the celebration of ICOM’s International Museum Day, under the theme "Museums and Society in Continuous Change", will implement the educational programme titled "The Five Families of Chinese Porcelain" on Monday, May 19. The programme is intended for pupils in grades 1 through 4 of primary school.
The journey into the world of Chinese porcelain is full of discoveries and creativity. Pupils will become art researchers, equipped with discovery cards, as they explore the Museum’s Chinese collection, where they will be asked to identify specific motifs.
From the imperial dragon to the flowers of the "Famille Rose", pupils will decode the symbols and the stories hidden behind them.
Through a hands-on guided tour, pupils will explore the Museum's collection and classify the porcelain pieces into the corresponding colour families. They will learn about techniques of production and decoration, their artistic value, and their commercial significance.
In a constantly changing world, the art of ceramicists using traditional methods is at risk of disappearing. Pupils will come to understand the value of ceramics as intangible cultural heritage, passed down through generations and forming an integral part of Chinese cultural tradition.
After drawing inspiration from the exhibits, the pupils will move on to the art workshop, where they will choose the colours and motifs that impressed them most and paint their own porcelain.
