CORFU. Event organised by Corfu Museum of Asian Art.
(Museum of Asian Art) As part of the celebrations for the August Full Moon organised by the Ministry of Culture, Corfu Museum of Asian Art will be hosting an event titled "Full Moon Over Love: The Epic of the Butterflies" from Friday, August 16, to Monday, August 19.
This year's event is dedicated to the theatrical costumes of Chinese Opera, one of the world's oldest forms of drama, which has been included in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List since 2010. Chinese Opera is a rich and diverse form of theatre with a long history and significant cultural value in China. Depending on the genre, it includes music, dance, and pantomime.
Visitors will have the opportunity to admire up close the colourful and unique designs of theatrical costumes from different types of opera, such as the Beijing Opera, Yue Opera, Huagu Opera, Kunqu Opera and Tibetan Opera.
In parallel, scenes from the Yue Opera's theatrical production "The Butterfly Lovers," which tells the romantic tale of Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai, will be screened.
On the night of the Full Moon, August 16, thematic guided tours of the Museum's Chinese Opera collection will take place in the inner colonnade of the Palace from 8:00 PM to midnight, with free admission for the public.
*The theatrical costumes of Chinese Opera are part of the Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation, Silk Museum Collection, a donation from the Embassy of the People's Republic of China.
