CORFU. Programme of activities for International Museum Day open to the public.

The Capodistrias Museum is celebrating International Museum Day 2024 with activities for everyone as well as for special groups.

The theme this year for International Museum Day is "Museums for Education and Research," and the Capodistrias Museum will be organising activities aimed at both young and old and special groups.

Open programme of activities for the public:

Saturday, May 18

All day: Free admission to the museum's permanent exhibition (hours: 10:00-16:00)

12:00: "Capodistrias & Education," a thematic tour of the permanent exhibition, focusing on exhibits that illuminate Ioannis Capodistrias' policies for Education. No registration required. Duration: 1 hour.

Sunday, May 19


10:30: "Journey to Union" Treasure hunt in Corfu Town for children and adults.
- Meeting time for teams: 10:30 at the Solomos Museum (2, Th. Makri Str., Mourayia)
- End & award ceremony: 13:30 at the Union Monument, Upper Square

The Capodistrias Museum is participating in the Corfu Town treasure hunt organised by the Ionian University Department of Music Studies (Music Paedagogy and Psychology section) and the Society of Corfiot Studies - Solomos Museum of Corfu on the occasion of the 160 years since the Union of the Ionian Islands with Greece, celebrated on May 21st.

It is aimed at individuals of all ages from 8 years old and above who will participate in teams*.

Registration is required for participation in teams or individually.

*Children and teenage teams are advised to include at least one adult and not exceed 8-10 members. (One participant can declare the names of all team members, or individuals can do so on the online registration form).

The Educational activity - Treasure hunt "Journey to Union" organised by the Ionian University Department of Music Studies (Music Paedagogy and Psychology section) and the Society of Corfiot Studies - Solomos Museum, is under the auspices of the Municipality of Corfu and Diapontia Islands and is supported by the Catholic Archdiocese of Corfu, Zakynthos, Kefalonia, Epirus, the Capodistrias Museum, the Corfu Branch of the National Gallery, the Ionian University Museum, Corfu Municipal Art Gallery and the Museum of Asian Art.

12:00: "The Koukouritsa Capodistria Estate" - thematic guided walk in the Museum Garden. During the thematic guided walk, we will learn about stories from the life of the Capodistrias in Koukouritsa, as well as information about the vegetation and the formation of what has been called the exceptional - for its natural and anthropogenic beauty - historical listed monument.

No registration required. Duration: 1 hour.

The Capodistrias Museum's programme for this year's International Museum Day includes activities exclusively targeting SPECIAL GROUPS:

Thursday, May 16: Presentation of the Museum's role & introduction to the Capodistrias Museum at the Corfu Prison 'Second Chance' School.

Saturday, May 18, & Sunday, May 19: Two-day event for the Greek Drivers' Association, with overnight stay in the museum's garden.

International Museum Day, established by the International Council of Museums (ICOM), is celebrated every year on May 18th. This year, ICOM is dedicating the day to the theme: "Museums for Education and Research."

This year's celebration of International Museum Day is promoting awareness for a sustainable, inclusive world. By selecting this year's theme, ICOM aims to highlight museums as vital spaces for the convergence of education and research. As dynamic entities, open and accessible to all, museums significantly contribute to understanding the world.
