Ionian Islands Regional Governor meets with tourism and production sector representatives

CORFU. The topic of the meeting was the tourism promotion strategy of the Ionian Islands Region.

The Regional Governor, Yiannis Trepeklis, provided information on the targeted tourism promotion actions being planned. He also highlighted the importance of establishing a DMMO for the Ionian Islands Region. After thanking all those who participated in the recent trip to the USA, he invited anyone interested to join the Ionian Islands Regional Authority on the upcoming trip to China, where a strategic effort will be made to penetrate the Chinese market.

A working meeting was held today at the headquarters of the Ionian Islands Regional Authority, led by Regional Governor Yiannis Trepeklis. The meeting brought together tourism and production sector representatives from Corfu, major hotel chains, the Corfu Chamber of Commerce, and online participants from the other islands of the Ionian Islands Region.

During the meeting, the Regional Governor informed attendees about the region’s strategic tourism promotion plan, emphasising expansion into new dynamic markets. In this context, he announced his upcoming trip to China, where, as the head of the Ionian Islands Region delegation, he will engage in targeted meetings aimed at penetrating the Chinese market.

Mr. Trepeklis highlighted the region’s key tourism priorities, which include:

  • Extending the tourist season,

  • Attracting visitors with higher purchasing power,

  • Expanding into new markets, such as the American, Chinese and Indian markets.

In this regard, discussions are already underway with the Hellenic-Indian Chamber of Commerce, and the region is actively participating in the outreach programme launched by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, further strengthening its international promotion efforts.

Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of establishing a Destination Management and Marketing Organisation (DMMO) for the Ionian Islands Region. The Regional Governor noted that the necessary procedures for its creation are already underway.

The meeting confirmed a shared commitment to collaboration between the regional government, industry stakeholders and the business community, with the goal of enhancing and refining the international promotion of the Ionian Islands as a premier travel destination.
