Central Corfu Municipality: No to dumping of building materials and bulky objects on streets

CORFU. "The service has repeatedly informed the public about the available options to prevent the formation of waste piles and provides a door-to-door bulky item collection service by appointment."
(Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands Municipality) The image of our Municipality is constantly affected by the uncontrolled disposal of appliances, furniture, mattresses, and construction materials on the road. This phenomenon has been intensifying daily, especially as businesses, accommodations, and hotels prepare for the upcoming tourist season.
As part of our collective effort to manage daily life and maintain the best possible appearance of our Municipality, we urge everyone to support and contribute to the efforts of the Cleaning Service.
The service has repeatedly informed the public about the available options to prevent the formation of waste piles and provides a door-to-door bulky item collection service by appointment.
We kindly ask for your cooperation with the following:
A) Contact the Municipality at 15601 or 26610 24444 from 08:30 to 13:30 to register your request and schedule the collection of bulky waste items (1-3 pieces such as appliances, mattresses, furniture).
B) For larger quantities of bulky items, such as those resulting from hotel equipment upgrades or the furnishing of homes and business premises, please contact licensed collection and recycling/recovery units operating within the Municipality.
C) Renovation and construction materials should be delivered to authorised Excavation, Construction and Demolition Waste (AEKK) processing units.
Anyone involved in construction work must deliver inert waste materials (debris, window frames, glass panels, dismantled materials, etc.) to authorised processing units and stop dumping loads near waste bins. By law, AEKK waste must be managed for reuse and recycling and delivered to the designated facilities within our Municipality. Debris and other inert waste must be transported to AEKK processing sites by the owner or the person responsible for the work (engineer, contractor, professional craftsman).
We stress that the deliberate abandonment of objects or debris from professional contractor or transporter vehicles in public roads or other shared spaces is subject to a fine of €2,000.
Reception Facilities for Bulky Items & AEKK Waste in the Municipality of Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands:
- DRASI IKE: Kakotrafos – Danilia – Corfu, Tel. 26610 99789
- KERKYRAIKI RECYCLING: Potamos – Glykofolia – Corfu, Tel. 26610 91913
We kindly ask everyone to comply with these regulations, as it is both a legal obligation and a necessity to prevent significant aesthetic and environmental degradation caused by uncontrolled waste disposal.
