CORFU. "We will calmly collaborate with all relevant authorities, aiming to eliminate any possible dangers."

The Governor of the Ionian Islands and President of the EN.PE Tourism Committee, Yannis Trepeklis, made the following statement regarding the insolvency of the German Tourism Organisation FTI:

"From the very first moment we learned about the insolvency process of one of the largest tourism organisations worldwide, FTI, we have been in close cooperation with all involved parties, primarily the Ministry of Tourism, as well as local and regional stakeholders, including hoteliers, tourism professionals, and employees.

Our primary concern at this time is to ensure that all visitors currently in the Ionian Islands for their holidays through this particular travel organisation secure their accommodation and return to their homeland with the best impressions and, above all, without any problems.

The people involved in tourism in the Ionian Islands have demonstrated in the past, in similar and corresponding situations, a high sense of professionalism and solidarity, and I am absolutely confident that the same will happen now if necessary.

Following our actions, because this is a complex and multifaceted problem that we are called to address at the beginning of the tourist season, we will approach the issue calmly and composedly, in collaboration with all relevant authorities. Our goal is to eliminate any possible dangers and, above all, to prevent a domino effect of developments that could jeopardise the smooth progression of this promising tourist season.

Wherever necessary and required, we will be ready, with targeted actions and initiatives, to intervene to safeguard the interests of our tourist destination and the people in our tourism industry."
