Intensive police checks for illegal transfers in Corfu – Total fines of 64,800 euros

CORFU. The checks will continue throughout the tourist season, aiming to protect legitimate professionals and ensure safe transfers on the island.
Corfu Traffic Police carried out targeted traffic checks in areas with increased tourist activity, aiming to combat instances of illegal passenger transfers, which are particularly common during the summer months.
Between June 30 and July 14, a total of 320 checks were conducted on vans and private cars, resulting in 46 violations being recorded. These included offences such as unauthorised passenger transfers, lack of a valid rental agreement, improper fares, and failure to register information on the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport’s online platform. Administrative fines totalling €64,800 were imposed on the offenders.
During the same period, 95 public-use vehicles (taxis) were also checked, with 34 found to have committed violations related to passenger transfers.
The checks will continue throughout the tourist season, aiming to protect legitimate professionals and ensure the safety of transfers on the island.
