Capodistrias Museum commemorates the Governor

The Capodistrias Museum – Centre for Capodistrian Studies is marking Ioannis Capodistrias Remembrance Day on Sunday 27 September with free admission, themed guided tours and activities for children and families.

The events are taking place on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 September at Koukouritsa in Evropouli and form part of the European Heritage Days, which this year are themed “Heritage at Risk – Revival, Resilience, Reflection”.

On Saturday, from 11:00 to 12:00, the themed guided tour “Heritage at Risk: Stories of Rescue from the Capodistrias Museum Collection” will take place. The focus will be on objects that were at risk of destruction or deterioration but were ultimately saved and have survived to become part of the museum’s present-day collection.

On Sunday, from 11:00 to 13:00, the programme will focus on families and children, with a special guided tour exploring Ioannis Capodistrias, his era and his legacy. This will be followed by the interactive activity “Young Guardians: Who Decides What Is Worth Saving?”, in which children will choose what they would preserve for future generations.

On both days, the open activity “An Archive for the Future: What Must Not Be Lost?” will be taking place, inviting visitors to suggest objects, photographs, stories, memories, words, melodies or even recipes that they believe are worth passing on to the future.

The Museum will be open on both days from 10:00 to 16:00, with free admission to the permanent biographical exhibition. Advance booking is required for the organised activities and guided tours, by email at [email protected] or by telephone on 26610 32440.
