Fourteen engravings of Capodistrias donated to Museum

Fourteen engravings dedicated to Ioannis Capodistrias have been added to the collection of the Capodistrias Museum – Centre for Capodistrian Studies, following a donation by Corfiot collector and author Georgios C. Sourtzinos.

The works come from the donor’s personal collection of Corfiot engravings and constitute historical records connected with the life, public presence and legacy of the first Governor of Greece. Their inclusion in the Museum’s collection also expands the material available for research and study of Capodistrian iconography.

Among the engravings is the copperplate engraving “Ioannis Capodistrias, First Governor of Greece”, which was printed at the Aspiotis Brothers Printing House in Corfu. It is of particular interest as it connects the depiction of Capodistrias with the history of printing in Corfu.

With the donation, the fourteen works now become part of the Museum’s collection and will be available for study, research and exhibitions. The Museum notes that the addition of new authentic historical records strengthens its ability to document and present different aspects of the personality and era of the Corfiot statesman.

The Museum’s Board of Directors and its director thanked Georgios C. Sourtzinos, describing his donation as an important contribution to culture and a valuable legacy for the institution.

As stated in Monday’s announcement, initiatives of this kind also highlight the importance of cooperation between private collectors and cultural institutions, ensuring that historical records held in private collections are properly preserved, made accessible to academic research and made available to the wider public.
