New North Corfu EKAB base to be created in Acharavi
CORFU. North Corfu Mayor: "The Municipality will buy a new fully equipped ambulance for the new EKAB base".
The North Corfu Municipality is pleased to announce the creation of an EKAB (Ambulance Service) base in the Municipality - a long-standing request of both the Municipal Authority and the EKAB employees. This facility is an important step towards improving emergency services for residents and visitors to the area, taking into account that North Corfu is at least 30km away from the main EKAB base in Corfu Town with all that entails, especially with time being wasted in emergencies and their transfer to a secondary health unit.
A meeting was held on Thursday 11 January between the Municipal Authority and a team of EKAB officials in order to discuss, amongst other things, the creation of the base in a space with the specifications required.

The North Corfu Municipality, responding positively to EKAB's request for accommodation of the base, presented the options from which the most suitable was considered to be that of the Multipurpose Surgery in Acharavi.
From the Municipal Authority, present at the meeting were the North Corfu Mayor Giorgos Mahimaris, Haritonas Koutsouris, Spyridoula Kokkali and the Civil Protection Supervisor Giorgos Mavropoulos, while from EKAB present were the 7th Regional EKAB Director Michalis Tsovilis, the Head of the Corfu EKAB base Vassilis Kitsos and the Ambulance Service Employees' Union President Christos Kypriotis.
Also present at the meeting was the Acharavi Multipurpose Surgery Director Nikolaos Poulis.
The North Corfu Mayor Giorgos Mahimaris stated the following: "The creation of the base is an important addition to the health infrastructure of our area. In cooperation with EKAB, we will ensure immediate response to emergency situations and improve the health care of our citizens, while the base in North Corfu Municipality will operate under the standards of high quality health care and safety, offering immediate and effective assistance to residents and visitors of the area."
At the meeting it was stressed that 8 positions were advertised for the necessary personnel. Mr. Mahimaris promised that the Municipality will immediately proceed with the purchase of a state-of-the-art ambulance, fully equipped with the registration of the expenditure in the Municipality's budget for 2024.
The Municipality expresses its gratitude to the EKAB for its cooperation and support in the implementation of this important project for the local community and visitors.
