CORFU. The first one in Greece to have a digital version in the metaverse.
The operation of the Ionian Islands Film Office's digital meeting office in metaverse, the first to be set up in Greece in order to provide an innovative way of facilitating audiovisual productions, is opening new horizons in the film industry and the promotion of our tourist product.
Technology is once again being used with an impressive result. Instead of a simple zoom meeting, interested parties will be able to have an interactive experience in a fully digital space with just a few clicks.
The Ionian Islands Film Office's digital meeting office in the metaverse was presented on Thursday afternoon by the Ionian Islands Regional Governor Rodi Kratsa and its creators, the Ionian University Associate Professor Dr. Ioannis Deliyiannis and the director and researcher at the Department of Audiovisual Arts Dr. Iakovos Panagopoulos. Also present were the Antiquities Inspectorate Director Tenia Rigakou, the Deputy Mayor for European Programmes Panayiota Tzanne and the Ionian Islands Film Office Head Angela Krokidis.
"The central policy for the promotion of audiovisual productions has to do with the creation of a high level representation for the Film Office, i.e. all the services offered to promote the potential our islands have to host and support audiovisual productions. This allows the user, wherever they come from, not only to search for information from websites and personal contacts, but also to browse and discover the wealth and possibilities of our islands through this function", said Ms. Kratsa.
Easy to use
As the creators said, this virtual space is easy to navigate and use, as all access devices (mobile phones, tablets, computers and VR devices) are supported, and it is interactively and collaboratively showcasing the availability of cinematic and tourist locations and services. It is a telecollaboration space for 50 people, where each user is free to move independently and focus their attention wherever they want.
As Mr. Panagopoulos explained, this digital meeting space is a corridor, where all the information about the locations and the local professionals of the area is provided, in order to give a glimpse of the possibilities offered by each island of our Region, before someone visits the area of interest.
Promotion
The project is the result of hard work and collaboration between the Ionian University and the Ionian Islands Film Office. In fact, as Mr. Deliyiannis pointed out, the digital meeting office can also be used by the Region as a tool for the promotion of tourism, as it contains a large number of selected locations with the natural beauty and unique historical monuments of the Ionian Islands.
Memorandum of cooperation
However, the performance of the Ionian Islands Film Office in attracting successful productions, such as "My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3", "Maestro" and "The Return", has paved the way for international collaborations, despite coming from a small island Region.
As Ms. Kratsa said, the Ionian Islands Film Office is considered a partner of the corresponding office of the Municipality of Paris, which is the most attractive and dynamic at international level. The excellent cooperation is to be sealed at the end of June with the signing of a memorandum of cooperation with Paris Cinema, which is a benchmark for film productions worldwide.
