CORFU. The demand for the so-called food tours has increased in the last two years.

Food tours have become a dominant trend and a top tourist activity for visitors, while it seems that the demand has increased over the last two years in Corfu.
 
Food tours have been particularly embraced, as more and more tourists wish to be introduced to Corfu's culture through the rich and high-quality local cuisine, fascinated by the long history of Corfu's products.
 
Olive oil, wine, honey, butter, as well as kumquat, charcuterie, spices, limoncello and ginger beer, now have a special place in the hearts of visitors who return home with the best taste experiences.
 
 
Tourist agencies
 
In fact, recently there has been an increase in the number of tourist agencies on the island that organise food tours to wineries, olive groves, charcuterie factories and other places where the island's pure and fine products are produced.
 
"In the last two years, food tours have been chosen by visitors, as they want to connect the cultural part with the gastronomy of the island and enjoy the area they are vacationing in. They are particularly impressed by the fact that they are pure and fresh products, as well as by their history", the tourist guide and member of the Panhellenic Federation of Tourist Guides Magda Kousouni told Enimerosi.
 
As she explained, these tours last from 3 to 3 and a half hours and are particularly popular amongst both cruise passengers and individual visitors who want to taste the local foods.
 
 
Dafnis family
 
A pioneer in the food tour focusing on olive oil is the well-known Dafnis family that maintains its business in Ag. Mathaios and has received gold awards for its fine extra virgin olive oil "The Governor". It is the first olive press in Corfu that started the famous olive tours six years ago.

As Spyros Dafnis told Enimerosi, the experience is unique for the visitor, as it includes tours of the century-old olive grove and the olive mill-museum, where visitors learn about the olive varieties on the island and their history, the therapeutic and protective properties of the oil and they can also taste the olive oil.
 
"People see a product on the shelf, but we open up a world behind it and that's the magic," Mr. Dafnis said. He said that food tours have become a top choice of Corfu visitors. In fact, last year alone, Mr. Dafnis' olive press welcomed 15,000 visitors, as part of its agrotourism activity.
