Applications from businesses to be sent to Ministry of Finance for flood damage compensation

CORFU. The Ionian Islands Region is still waiting to receive the €15.5 million to repair the damage to infrastructure.

The Ministry of Finance is expected to receive within the next few days 80% of the applications from businesses for compensation due to the damage caused by the ‘Ballos’ storm last October.
 
At the same time, the Ionian Islands Region is waiting to receive the large amount of funding it had applied for, amounting to €15.5 million, in order to repair the damage caused to infrastructure by the ‘Ballos’ storm. Deputy Regional Governor Kostas Zorbas told Enimerosi that a total of 218 applications have been submitted to the Ionian Islands Region for compensation from businesses in Central Corfu, Viros, Alepou, Moraitika and Messonghi, while some requests also concern agricultural crops.
 
According to Mr. Zorbas, until January 20, 80% of the total of 218 applications are expected to be submitted to the Ministry of Finance, so that they can initially receive 20% of the value of the damage suffered. He also stressed that by the end of January the €15.5-million funding is expected to be approved, in order to repair the damage that was caused to infrastructure by the ‘Ballos’ storm on October 14.
 
According to the Ionian Islands Region, there is a lot of repair work that needs to be carried out. The aim is to improve the condition of the road network, in order to make it safe again, while flood protection works are also necessary.
 
 
Where the work will be carried out
 
In particular, the work will be carried out in the following areas: Gyros Achilliou, Benitses, Moraitika, Lefkimmi, Kavos, Kanoni port, Agioi Deka - Stavros - Strongili - Moraitika, Potamos, Kira Chrysikou, Temploni, Livadi Ropa, Giannades, Debono, Evropouli, Gouvia, Afra, Triklino, Corfu, Alepou, Pelekas, Vrioni, Viros, Kalafationes, Varipatades, Agioi Theodoroi, Ano and Kato Pavliana, Pentati, Messonghi river, Kourkoumelis bridge.
