CORFU. A difficult night for Corfu, as severe weather put the resilience of the power grid and emergency crews to the test.

The wave of severe weather, marked mainly by gale-force winds and intense rainfall, caused serious problems to the power grid on Wednesday night.

Electricity supply has been cut in several areas of the island, with DEDDIE repair crews racing against time and the elements:

Alykes, Kontokali and Gouvia:
The damage to the grid is significant, with a specialised crew already on site working to restore power.

North Corfu (Kavadades):
A fallen tree onto power lines caused an immediate blackout across the wider area.

South Corfu (Kavos and Perivoli):
A similar situation in the south, where a tree brought down by strong winds cut off electricity supply.

Restoration work ongoing

According to the latest information, technical crews are active on all damage fronts. Power is expected to be restored gradually over the next few hours, provided weather conditions allow for the safe completion of repair work.

Advisory

Residents are urged to exercise particular caution when travelling, as the road network poses risks due to fallen branches and reduced visibility.
