€600,000 from ‘Philodimos’ for 7 football pitches in Corfu

CORFU. The Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands Municipality has received the Deputy Minister of Interior Stelios Petsas΄ approval for the upgrading of sports facilities in the Municipality, amounting to about €600,000.
Mayor Meropi Ydraiou, who met with Mr. Petsas in Athens last week, expressed her satisfaction for this project in a statement today.
The Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands Mayor said that this approval is basically giving the ‘green light’ for the implementation of major projects to improve sports grounds throughout the Municipality and noted the consequent upgrade of the image and services provided to users. This is a funding that will enable projects that have been necessary for years and that involve essential sports infrastructure to finally be conducted.
It should be noted that similar funding was approved for sports projects in North and South Corfu Municipalities. This funding was a product of claim as the original amount, which concerned the whole Municipality, totaled €600,000.
The project will be funded by the ‘Philodimos II’ Programme, entitled “projects for the improvement of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands Municipality sports facilities / upgrading of Central Corfu and the Diapontia Islands Municipality sports facilities”, with a budget of €596,780.
The projects to be implemented are the following:
- Kastelani Messi sports facilities
- Agioi Deka football pitch
- Agios Markos football pitch
- Ano Korakiana football pitch
- Skripero football pitch
- Kato Garouna football pitch
- Sinarades football pitch
In the context of the maintenance and safe operation of these sports grounds, the following work is expected to be carried out:
Kastelani Messi sports facilities
Construction of benches, repair of locker rooms, artificial turf in the auxiliary pitch, fencing of the auxiliary pitch.
Budget: €163,191
Agioi Deka football pitch
Construction of benches, repair of pitch and surrounding area fencing, retaining wall behind the substitutes' benches, press boxes, tiered seating.
Budget: €93,171
Agios Markos football pitch
Repair of pitch fencing, construction of benches, repair and maintenance of the locker rooms.
Budget: €35,501
Ano Korakiana football pitch
The old locker rooms will be demolished and new ones will be built.
Budget: €169,044
Skripero football pitch
Repair of the existing locker rooms (tiling, shower taps, new coatings, painting).
Budget: €29,211
Kato Garouna football pitch
Construction of pitch fencing and repair of existing changing rooms (tiling, shower taps, new coatings, paintwork).
Budget: €54,661
Sinarades football pitch
Construction of pitch fencing, as well as of a concrete wall at the pitch entrance.
Budget: €51,998
