CORFU. Regional Governor Rodi Kratsa took part in an online meeting with Civil Protection Minister Christos Stylianides on Tuesday 12 October.
The Regional Authority and all the responsible services are ready to respond to the worsening weather conditions that are expected to hit the country and especially the Ionian Islands in the coming hours.
The Regional Authority has been able to collaborate with the Civil Protection Deputy Minister Evaggelos Tournas, who visited Corfu as government representative at the 450th anniversary of the Battle of Lepanto, with regard to prevention and response in order to protect both public and private property.
The Deputy Minister visited the Ionian Islands Regional Fire Department on Monday 11 October and met with Fire Chief Nikos Roumeliotis and other personnel. This was followed by a working meeting with Regional Governor Rodi Kratsa, Deputy Regional Governor for Corfu Kostas Zorbas, Deputy Regional Governor for Civil Protection Nikos Miliotis and Regional Civil Protection Coordinator Antonis Sourvinos.
At the meeting, the Deputy Minister took note of the main Civil Protection issues that the Regional Authority has and demonstrated his good grasp of the problems, including the poor communications between the islands.
Mr. Tournas listened attentively to the needs that were expressed and the insufficient means for providing the necessary protection. The Regional Governor stressed the need to facilitate preventative works and the Deputy Minister said that the new government plan to 'fortify' the regions is based on a broad policy of prevention.
