Ionian Islands to get water ambulances at last

CORFU. The first one will be here in October and the second before the end of the year.
The Ionian Islands is getting two fully-equipped water ambulances at last. Deputy Regional Governor Kostas Zorbas told Enimerosi that the first one will be here at the end of October and the second before the end of December.
The water ambulances will be available for the Coastguard for the needs and transfers of patients in the Ionian Islands.
One of them will be based in Corfu but the base for the other one has not been decided yet. The funding of approximately €2.5m is from the ESPA 2014-2020 Programme.
The ambulances have been built by a Greek company and meet the specifications demanded by the Hellenic Coastguard. They are modern vessels, so constructed as to be able to accommodate all the necessary medical equipment and there is a special cabin for patients not connected directly with the cockpit.
The vessel is also accessible for wheeled stretchers. The ambulance will be able to reach speeds of over 40 knots in all weather and can accommodate over 10 people.
