Covid-19 Delta variant now in Corfu, Lefkada and Cephalonia

CORFU. A Delta variant case was detected insampling done by the SARS-CoV-2 National Genomic Surveillance Network, coordinated by the National Public Health Organization EODY.
One case was also found in Lefkada and two in Cephalonia. During the previous sampling, no cases of this variant had been detected in Corfu.
According to EODY data, genomic analysis was carried out on 856 samples throughout the country selected randomly or in a targeted method from 17 June to 12 July, 2021. Out of the 856 samples tested, 760 were classified as Variants of Concern (VOC) and 69 as Variants under Monitoring.
Of the 760 VOC samples, 466 were found to belong to the Delta strain, 200 to the Alpha strain, 93 to Beta and 1 to Gamma. Of the 69 samples of Variants under Monitoring, all are related to the strain B.1.1.318
