CORFU. The regional authority is organising an online meeting with the hotel and tourist accommodation associations from the four islands to decide on joint policy.
The Ionian Islands Regional Administration is concerned about the recent spike in COVID-19 infections in Corfu. Over the last ten days EODY has recorded a total of 2,475 positive cases.
In light of the large numbers of tourists expected this year and the lifting of measures, the regional authority has decided that there needs to be collaboration with hotels and tourist accommodation as regards COVID cases. Following the lifting of measures, the Ministry of Tourism has not contracted any quarantine hotels.
The Ionian Islands Regional Administration is organising an online meeting today with Regional Governor Rodi Kratsa, Deputy Regional Governors for Public Health and Tourism Melita Andrioti and Alexandros Alexakis and the hotel and tourist accommodation associations from the four islands to decide on joint policy.
Melita Andrioti told Enimerosi that one proposal that will be discussed is for the same hotel as was used the last two years to operate again as a quarantine hotel, but this time, those who are infected will pay for it - unless, of course, their condition is so serious that they have to be hospitalised.
"We will listen to the views of the hotels and tourist accommodation so that we can put a policy in place to deal with customers who test positive for COVID-19," said Ms. Andrioti.
