CORFU. Regional Governor, Rodi Kratsa said that “Both within and outside Greece we encourage continuous efforts towards vaccination and health protection and their positive results”
The Ionian Islands Region is in first place in Greece with regard to vaccination of residents according to the official data, which was made public after an
extraordinary meeting -via teleconference- of the Prime Minister with the 13
Regional Governors of the country, the President of Central Union of Municipalities of Greece (KEDE) and the representatives of the Ministries of Health and Interior, on the developments regarding the pandemic and the progress of vaccinations.
Almost half of the population of the Ionian Islands Region (47%) has already
been completely vaccinated (1st place), while the Region is also at the top of the
list of regions in terms of the first dose (55%). Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis, however, voiced his concern in addressing the 13 Regional Governors, stressing that there has been an increase in the number of cases and the Delta variant of the virus has already been identified in our country.
An increase in the number of cases is observed among younger people, with
gatherings and entertainment venues being the main causes. The areas of the
country where an increase in the number of cases is currently being observed are
Crete, the South Aegean and Attica. In the Ionian Islands Region, things are
positive and under control, with the focus being on Corfu because of tourism.
The Prime Minister called for greater involvement in informing and encouraging
citizens to get vaccinated by the local authorities, especially at the level of small local communities. He said that Mobile Vaccination Units will be set up so that no village is left without vaccinations and not a single day is wasted.
Mitsotakis pointed out that there is absolutely no problem with vaccine availability in our country and stressed that there is only one clear message: “Get vaccinated, but also get tested regularly before and after every social activity, so that we can have a safe and free summer.” He added, “Based on studies we have done in the last three months, 99% of those who end up in ICU or lose their lives, are unvaccinated.”
“Both within and outside Greece we encourage continuous efforts towards vaccination and health protection and their positive results” said Ionian Islands Regional Governor Rodi Kratsa.
